Women In Sport Q&A – PE Dept.

As part of our Inclusion in Sport Topic in TY Leaving Cert PE, we are doing Women in Sport‘.  Today we have some special guests joining us (in person and online). They’re going to speak about their experience and then the students will have an opportunity to ask questions.

  • 8:45: Sophie Mc Mahon & Laura Delany – Irish Cricket Internationals.  Both are LHS alumni.
  • 9:00: Mary Barnwell – Ex Irish Athlete in the 400m hurdles.  Held the Irish record for 16 years! Finished 4th in the World Champs & Qualified for the LA Olympics.  Then hung up her spikes and pursued a career in International Hockey (as you do), where she won 47 Caps…the list goes on!  Mary is obviously current Loreto staff.
  • 9:15: Michelle Claffey – Retired this year from Irish Rugby (14 Caps).  2022 Bank of Irelands Player of the Year.  Her clubs are Leinster and Blackrock.  She, and her team Blackrock RFU, are about to take on Railway Union this weekend in the EnergiaAIL Womens Division final.
  • 9:20: Karen Coventry – Director of Sport for Special Olympics Ireland
