Congratulations Noemi – Winning Design Chosen For BT Young Scientist Development Trophy

in News

Congratulations to Noemi Karska. Her design was chosen to be the next BT Young Scientist ‘The Science For Development’ Trophy. Self Help Africa ran a nationwide competition last academic year. The trophy will be presented yearly to the winners of this special award along with a travel bursary. Noemi will work with the artist Fiona Coffey, who will make the trophy in recycled metals using ancient smelting techniques. Fiona will be visiting the school to do different making processes including an outdoor demonstration for all. She will bring in her portable and very sustainable kiln to show us the metal casting techniques she uses. The History Dept might especially like this as I’m told the techniques date back to the Bronze Age. The trophy will be fully finished by December. Well done to Noemi who also spoke so eloquently about her design concept and her passion for sustainability. Ms. Bowe
