Curriculum

A comprehensive curriculum is offered at our school which underpins our school’s vision for developing the student as an individual.

At Junior Cycle our girls study English, Maths, Gaeilge, Science, Geography, History, PE, Religious Education, CSPE, SPHE, Choir and Drama.

Students also study a foreign language (French, German or Spanish) and chose two of the following: Business Studies, Home Economics, Art or Music. First Year classes are not streamed. In second and third year, Gaeilge and Maths are banded and set according to ability.

After Junior Cycle students go on to Transition Year which is a compulsory one year programme that acts as a bridge between Junior and Senior Cycle. Students engage in a wide variety of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Students explore their own talents and abilities and take responsibility for themselves and their future. The programme includes Work Experience and Community Outreach as well as a wide range of activities from Horticulture to Self Defence and much more.

At Senior Cycle all students take Gaeilge, English, Maths and a foreign language as exam subjects. They take Religious Education, PE, Careers, Choir, Drama and ECDL as non-exam subjects. They then choose three of the following Leaving Certificate subjects: Accounting, Art, Geography, Home Economics, Music, History, Business, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Religious Education or Economics.

To ensure our students are fully prepared for the state exams we offer supervised study to 3rd, 5th and 6th years each day after school.
